Red Deer, Alta. – RCMP in Red Deer continued their holiday season impaired driving campaign this past week, with more Check Stops and extra patrols over New Years Eve.
On Dec. 31, 2025, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Unit, along with RCMP General Duty and City of Red Deer Community Peace Officers (CPO’s), conducted 2 Check Stops followed by city-wide patrols. Over the course of the night, RCMP stopped 210 vehicles and each driver completed Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS). As a result, 5 drivers were removed from the roads (2 drivers failed MAS and 3 drivers were issued 24 Hour suspensions); 13 others were issued violation tickets, including 1 for failing to have insurance and another for stunting, while another 5 drivers were issued written warnings for vehicle or driving infractions.
Throughout the month of December, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Unit conducted multiple Check Stops over several weekends. A total of 680 vehicles were stopped with drivers completing MAS, resulting in 10 impaired driving charges, 1 GDL driver found driving after consuming alcohol contrary to regulations, and 34 other violation tickets issued.
Red Deer RCMP would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation during these Check Stops, and acknowledge the many drivers who were sober and had planned ahead to ensure a safe ride home.
Red Deer RCMP are committed to community and public safety, and while the holiday season may be coming to an end, traffic enforcement will continue through regular patrols and special projects such as these. Driving while impaired due to drugs or alcohol is never okay; it is criminal and dangerous. If you suspect or witness an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.
