Wood Buffalo RCMP conduct drug trafficking investigation, suspect arrested

Fort McMurray, Alta – In May 2025, Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section began conducting a drug trafficking investigation. On Nov. 28, 2025, Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section, along with the Crime Reduction Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence located on Rainbow Creek Drive in the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray. At the time the warrant was executed, there was a lone occupant in the residence who was arrested without incident.

As a result of the search, Police located and seized:

  • 97.3 grams of suspected cocaine;
  • Drug paraphernalia;
  • $6,195 in Canadian Currency;
  • $511 in US Currency;
  • $50,812 in Libyan Currency; and
  • 3,780 Illegal unstamped cigarettes

A 34-year-old, resident of Fort McMurray, is facing charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Three counts Trafficking a controlled substance
  • Fourt counts Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of suspected cocaine
  • Possess greater than 2000 cigarettes (Tobacco Tax Act)

The individual was released from Police custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on February 10, 2026.

Additionally, a 27-year-old resident of Edmonton, is facing charges:

  • Two counts Trafficking a controlled substance
  • Two counts Possession of property obtained by crime

A Provincial Warrant for arrest has been issued for the 27-year-old.
