Holden, Alta. – The Wetaskiwin RCMP have made an arrest in relation to a recent crime spree in the Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Vermilion areas. On Jan. 10, 2026, Vermilion RCMP received a report of a theft of a Dodge ram pick up from the victim’s residence. Over the next two weeks police were able to link this vehicle with thefts of fuel, and the theft of a cargo trailer. Two attempts to stop the vehicle were made by RCMP and Camrose Police Service which resulted in the vehicle fleeing and police discontinuing.  Thanks to surveillance footage, police were able to identify two occupants of the vehicle as known prolific offenders. The stolen vehicle was later recovered by Camrose RCMP, however, the suspects were not located.

RCMP and the Camrose Police service teamed up to locate and arrest the offenders. On Jan 28, 2026, members of the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located the two suspects in a different pick up. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle; however, it fled at a high rate of speed.  The Alberta RCMP Real Times Operations Centre (RTOC) took control of the police response coordinating nearby officers, detachments, and RCMP Air Services.  Air services, who were pre-emptively deployed to the area, assisted in maintaining surveillance of the vehicle and a tire deflation device was utilized. When the suspect continued to drive on flat tires, contact with the vehicle was made by police in a safe remote area to disable the vehicle and arrest the suspects.

RCMP have charged a 40-year-old Camrose County resident with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Flight from peace officer; and
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle.

RCMP have also charged a 30-year-old resident of Camrose with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Flight from peace officer; and
  • Operation while prohibited.

Both accused were taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with their next court dates set for Feb. 5, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

The investigation into the other offences continues.

“Thanks to the coordinated investigation between RCMP Units and Camrose Police Services we were able to devise a successful operation coordinating with RTOC and pre-emptively utilizing Air Services to mitigate risk to the public while still engaging and arresting these prolific offenders, “says Inspector John Spaans commander of Wetaskiwin RCMP. “Strategically streamlining our resources to actively target these types of offenders plays a key role in reducing crime across our communities, .”.
