Brooks RCMP advising of heavy police presence – Update #2

Brooks, Atla. – On Feb. 4, 2026, Brooks RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated individual causing significant damage inside a residence with a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers made several attempted to communicate with the individual. The individual became increasingly agitated and barricaded themself inside the home, refusing to comply with police commands.
Due to the escalating nature of the incident, the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Police Dog Services (PDS), and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), were deployed to assist. After numerous demands for the suspect to surrender, officers took the individual into custody, bringing the situation to an end.
As a result, a 32-year-old, resident of Brooks has been charged with:
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (x2)
- Mischief
- Intent to cause explosion
They were brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Brooks on Feb. 5, 2026.
