John D’Or Prairie, Alta. – On Feb. 3, 2026, around 7:42 a.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a resident in John D’Or Prairie. RCMP had responded to an assault call, which was later discovered to be gang-related, at the address a few hours prior where someone needed to be transported by medi-vac. RCMP set up containment and obtained a search warrant for the residence as the owner was non-cooperative. Contact was made with a potential suspect and known gang member, who refused to exit. Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team was called in and secured the residence, arresting those within. Investigation revealed the hidden location of the firearm, a sawed-off 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, which was seized.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old, and a 32-year-old, both resident of John D’Or Prairie, were arrested.
The 30-year-old was charged with:
- Assault with a weapon;
- Aggravated assault;
- Uttering threats;
- Participate in activity for a criminal organisation;
- Using firearm in the commission of an offence;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; and
- Careless use of a firearm.
The 32-year-old was charged with obstruct police (x2) and accessory after the fact.
Both were brought before a justice of the peace. The 30-year-old was remanded into custody while the 32-year-old was release. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Vermillion, with the 30-year-old to appear on Feb. 10, 2026, and the 32-year-old to appear on Feb. 24, 2026.
