Okotoks, Alta. – Okotoks RCMP is pleased to introduce a new Traffic Enforcement position, created using existing resources, to better address community concerns related to traffic safety within Okotoks. This dedicated role was developed in direct response to ongoing feedback from residents, who have consistently identified speeding and unsafe driving behaviours as priority issues in the community, particularly in school zones, high-traffic corridors, and busy intersections.

The establishment of this position reflects the Okotoks RCMP’s commitment to listening to community concerns and taking meaningful, proactive steps to enhance road safety throughout the town.

The dedicated Traffic Enforcement officer will focus on collision prevention, improving driver behaviour, and increasing safety for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. This work will include maintaining a strong and visible presence on local roadways, identifying, and addressing problem areas, and taking proactive measures to reduce the risk of serious and preventable collisions. They will also continue working collaboratively during joint operations with our Okotoks Community Peace Officer partners.

Staff Sergeant Mike Zinck, Detachment Commander of the Okotoks RCMP, says the new position allows police to take a more focused approach to addressing traffic-related concerns raised by the community. “Traffic safety continues to be one of the most common concerns we hear from residents in Okotoks. This position allows us to be more proactive and visible in our response, with the goal of improving driver behaviour, preventing collisions, and making our roads safer for everyone.”

The primary goal of the new position is to support public safety by promoting safer driving habits through a balanced approach that includes proactive engagement, education, and enforcement when necessary. Efforts will focus on slowing traffic, encouraging compliance with traffic laws, and reducing the likelihood of preventable collisions. Any enforcement action taken will be directed at unsafe driving behaviours and reinforcing safer roadways for the community.

Okotoks RCMP will continue to work closely with law enforcement partners and members of the community to monitor traffic trends, respond to emerging concerns, and support initiatives that contribute to safer roads throughout Okotoks.
