Grande Prairie RCMP on scene at serious motor vehicle collision – Update #2

Grande Prairie, Alta. – On Feb. 7, 2026, at approximately 10:27 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a charter bus. This occurred on Highway 43, approximately 1 km west of the town of Debolt. Fire and multiple EMS units attended the scene. 

There were 37 passengers on the bus, including adults and children. As a result of the collision, a 50-year-old resident of Grande Prairie, was declared deceased at the scene. RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. 

Non injured passengers were transported to the Debolt fire hall, where they could be safe and warm. Another bus was brought in to transport 16 patients to the hospital who were triaged to have minor injuries. They have all been checked and released. 6 passengers were triaged to be in serious condition, and they were taken to hospital via ambulance. Their conditions are unknown. 

The RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The collision is still under investigation; however, road conditions are believed to be a factor. Initial investigation revealed that the bus hit the median and then rolled over once, coming back onto its wheels. 

RCMP engaged local victim services and the RCMP Victim and Family Liaison Officers were engaged. If anyone needs assistance because of this tragic event, please call your local RCMP. We have the resources available to assist you during this difficult time.
