Airdrie, Alta. – On the morning of Feb. 8, 2026, while conducting traffic enforcement on the QE II North of Airdrie, an Alberta RCMP Traffic member stopped a vehicle travelling at 178 km/hr. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed two children seated in the rear who were not wearing seatbelts. The driver was issued three summonses and is scheduled to appear in court in March.

Excessive speed combined with the failure to properly use seatbelts significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death. This type of driving behaviour is dangerous and unacceptable.

Alberta RCMP Traffic reminds motorists to obey posted speed limits, ensure all occupants are properly restrained, avoid the use of handheld devices while driving, and never operate a vehicle while impaired.

To date in 2026, Alberta RCMP has responded to 19 fatal collisions resulting in 21 deaths across the province. Please drive safe.
