Strathcona County RCMP lay charges following carjacking

Strathcona County, Alta. – On February 7, 2026, around 7:40 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a call to assist Strathcona Fire and EMS with a single vehicle collision on Highway 21 near Township Road 534, Strathcona County.
It was reported that the adult male driver was trapped inside an SUV and showing signs of impairment.
Strathcona County RCMP arrived on scene and entered into an investigation. Strathcona County RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS) were engaged to assist. It was determined the vehicle had been stolen from Edmonton earlier in the day, and that the owner and driver of the vehicle, a ride share operator, had been assaulted by his client who then stole his vehicle and fled.
A 22-year-old resident of Edmonton, has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
- Assault
- Assault while choking
- Uttering threats
The individual has been remanded into custody and will appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park on February 11, 2026.
