Okotoks, Alta.- On Feb. 11, 2026, at 2:06 p.m., Okotoks RCMP received a report of a well being check on an individual outside a residence on Patterson Road in Okotoks. Upon arrival, officers began communicating with the suspect. A confrontation occurred resulting in an officer discharging their service pistol.
Additional resources were sent to contain the area, and the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed. Emergency Response Team negotiator efforts resulted in the suspect’s surrender. At this time, it was discovered that the suspect was injured. The suspect was transported to hospital with injuries and is expected to recover.
Due to the injuries sustained to the suspect, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the actions of the police during this investigation.
Independent of ASIRT’s investigation, the RCMP’s internal review process has been implemented to gather a full account of what took place during this incident. RCMP training, policy, police response, and the member’s duty status will be subject to review. The RCMP is, of course, fully cooperating with ASIRT.
