Agassiz RCMP arrest suspect following assault in Popkum

Agassiz RCMP have arrested a man following an incident at a gas station in Popkum that resulted in injuries.

On October 6, 2026, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Agassiz RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a gas station on Yale Road in Popkum. Investigators learned that a man had allegedly left the store without paying for merchandise. A male witness confronted the suspect, which resulted in a physical altercation between the two men. Several bystanders intervened and assisted in restraining the suspect until police arrived and arrested him. Both the witness and the suspect sustained injuries during the incident and received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned the suspect was also the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant from Quebec.

The suspect, now identified as Olivier Boily, was held in custody for court and is awaiting a bail hearing. The following charges have been approved by the BC Prosecution Service:

  • Theft under $5,000 – Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault causing bodily harm – Section 267(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault with a weapon – Section 267(a) the Criminal Code of Canada

The investigation remains ongoing and is being held by the Agassiz RCMP Serious Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact the Agassiz RCMP at 604-796-2211.
