On October 29, 2025, the Barriere RCMP hosted the Chu Chua and Barriere communities at their detachment where the official flag of Simpcw First Nation was raised.
The Barriere RCMP are proud of the working relationship that exists with Simpcw First Nation. Over the years, the RCMP have repeatedly been invited into the Chu Chua community to participate in cultural events, ceremonies, meetings and to engage with the youth/elders. A lasting relationship fostered by trust and mutual respect continues to enhance the way in which the RCMP serve this community.
In 2024, the Barriere RCMP secured funding by way of a grant application to raise a flagpole and prepare a meal for the Chu Chua community. This effort was made as a way of expressing appreciation for the continued invitations to their community.
“Today’s flag raising is more than a formal gesture. It is a symbol of our shared commitment - to respect, to understanding and to the partnership that exists between the Simpcw First Nation and the RCMP. The ceremony and the flag that we raise today represents unity, dignity and the path forward that we will walk together.”, said Corporal Kyle Camalush, Barriere RCMP Detachment Commander.
A new sign was developed in consultation with the Chu Chua language house, Chief and Council and elders. The sign will be placed in the foyer at Barriere Detachment, welcoming all visitors.
“We’ve built a strong work relationship over the years, and this shows the commitment we share to keeping our communities safe and connected.”, said Tina Donald, Councillor for Simpcw First Nation.
