If you’re driving a tractor-trailer through northern BC, and you really want to get the attention of BC Highway Patrol, here’s how you do it.
On June 19, 2025, a BC Highway Patrol officer was on his way to the Fort Nelson post office when he found the way blocked by a tractor-trailer carrying a load of mail. The trailer had snapped a rear axle and blown its axle air bags when the drivers attempted a 180 degree turn in the parking lot.
“When our police officers spoke with the tandem drivers of the tractor-trailer, they found more problems,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “Both drivers were issued tickets for falsified or incorrect log books. Meanwhile, their trailer had to be towed away on a flat deck for a thorough inspection.”
An official tow-truck was called. In the meantime, a competitor tow-truck tried to get the work, but that driver was issued a ticket for using an electronic device while driving.
“Most commercial drivers understand that there is a higher expectation of safety and professionalism for people who drive big, heavy rigs,” says Corporal McLaughlin. “When they don’t take their responsibilities seriously enough, BC Highway Patrol will be there.”
