A serious collision has shut down Highway #1 westbound, and police are looking for witnesses and dash camera video to determine the exact cause.
BC Highway Patrol received the first call just after 7:15 a.m. on December 22, 2025, when three vehicles collided on Highway #1 westbound just before the 176th Street exit in Surrey.
“This collision caused life-threatening injuries, so motorists are facing full and partial highway shutdowns as emergency crews help the injured and investigate the cause of the crash,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “Anyone who saw what happened, or has dash-camera video of the driving behaviour leading up to the crash, is asked to call police.”
Witnesses should call the BC Highway Patrol – Burnaby office at 604-526-9744 and quote file (1003) 2025-4185.
Motorists are encouraged to monitor www.DriveBC.ca for updated information on delays and detours and to learn when the highway is clear.
“We’d like to remind everyone to be extra-cautious and consider slowing down to under the speed limit during dark, dangerous winter driving conditions,” says Corporal McLaughlin. “Serious and fatal collisions are the last thing we want to see at Christmas.”
