About Burnaby RCMP

The City of Burnaby is located on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim speaking peoples. We are grateful for the opportunity to be on this territory.
With an estimated population of more than 249,000 residents, the Burnaby RCMP has grown into the second largest RCMP Detachment in Canada. In 2025, there were 301 police officers and 122 City of Burnaby employees at the detachment.
The RCMP have proudly served Burnaby since 1950. Our detachment motto, “Partners for a Safe Community” reflects our ongoing commitment to build strong working relationships with citizens and key community partners, to help create a safer place to live for everyone.

The city we serve is also incredibly diverse, and that diversity is also found within our RCMP team: as of 2026, over 40 different languages were spoken by officers at Burnaby detachment.
In addition to Frontline officers, Burnaby RCMP detachment is home to many specialized units, dedicated to high-priority areas including traffic enforcement and investigations, prolific offenders, and drug and gang interdiction. Our Police Mental Health Outreach Team works closely with partner agencies to support vulnerable individuals, and our Mobile Integrated Crisis Response program pairs police officers with mental health nurses to respond to calls. Our Victim Services Unit supports those impacted by crime or trauma, including sharing resources, safety planning, and guidance with the court process.

Supporting youth in our community is also a focus for the Burnaby RCMP. Our Youth Section works alongside the Burnaby School District, with a focus on crime prevention through education, and early intervention.
The detachment has also established popular programs including a Youth Academy and Soccer Camps, which help to create positive relationships with children and teens while giving them a chance to learn in a safe, supportive environment. Our Youth Services Unit provides free services to youth in need of additional supports and their families, such as counselling and restorative justice circles.
We wish to thank and acknowledge the City of Burnaby and its citizens for their support and partnership.
