Burnaby RCMP is advising the public to ensure their residence is secure before going out.

Burnaby RCMP recently received two reports of residential break and enters on the same day where an unlocked patio door was the point of entry. Both residences were in the Forest Grove area of North Burnaby. Several rooms were rummaged through and personal items including jewelry were stolen in both cases.

“With the warmer weather now upon us, we’re reminding everyone to secure their doors and windows when they go out,” said Cpl. Chad Premack, Burnaby RCMP’s Property Crime NCO. “Often a simple locked door or window is all it takes to avoid being a victim of property crime.”

In previous years we have seen people working in their back yard become victims simply because they did not lock their front door or window.

Before leaving your home, do the following:

  • Close and lock all windows every time you go out.
  • If you have an alarm, ensure you set it before you leave.
  • Keep your doors locked even if you are just in the back yard.
