Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services will be conducting additional targeted enforcement of micro-mobility vehicles such as e-scooters and e-bikes throughout the city and is encouraging all riders to know the rules and ensure they are riding safely.
These targeted operations are on top of the regular enforcement officers carry out each day, as part of their ongoing work to improve safety for road users and pedestrians. Traffic officers will be keeping an eye out for violations including underage riders, riding in prohibited areas, and not wearing a helmet, among other issues.
“We know micro-mobility vehicles have become increasingly popular, however we want to make sure people are riding according to the rules, for their safety and the safety of those around them,” said Sgt. Gary Johal with Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services. “We want to especially encourage parents to familiarize themselves with the rules regarding e-scooters and e-bikes, discuss them with their children, and never allow their children to ride illegally.”
In Burnaby, rules for e-scooters in particular are set by the province under BC Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project, and by City of Burnaby bylaws. You can learn more about how to ride safely and legally in Burnaby by visiting City of Burnaby: E-scooters & E-Bikes.
