Nearly one thousand dollars in fines handed to 16-year-old e-dirt biker who fled from police

Burnaby RCMP issued a 16-year-old e-dirt biker nearly $1,000 in fines for driving without consideration and fleeing from police.

On Friday, August 28, 2026, a Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services officer observed an e-dirt biker doing wheelies and travelling over the speed limit on Government Road in North Burnaby. The officer attempted to pull the biker over; however, they immediately cut into oncoming traffic, ran a stop sign, and fled the area. Conscious of public safety, the officer did not follow the biker. 

Approximately 25 minutes later, the e-dirt biker returned to the area. This time his attempted flight was cut short.

The rider was a 16-year-old boy. The boy’s father was contacted and attended the scene. The boy was issued a violation ticket for several Motor Vehicle Act infractions including failing to stop for police and driving without consideration. 

In total, the decisions made that day will cost the youth $938.

When a person with unpaid tickets applies for a driver's licence, they will be denied until all fines are paid in full. In this case, the youth will likely have his class 7 driver’s licence suspended.

“E-dirt bikes are not permitted on our roads, no matter your age,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with the Burnaby RCMP. “Having your licence suspended and paying a fine is a much better outcome than the potential consequences police have recently seen at collisions involving these types of vehicles.”
