On March 5th, 2026, at approximately 9:30 pm, police officers from The BC highway Patrol and the Campbell River RCMP were conducting pro-active patrols in the South end of Campbell River.

During the patrols, officers came onto the scene of a white sport utility vehicle that was rolled over and on fire near the corner of Willow Creek Rd. and the Jubilee Parkway. Officers approached and determined that the vehicle still had an occupant inside.

Officers smashed open the sunroof and extracted an unconscious man from inside the vehicle. Seconds after the man was removed from the vehicle, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

BC Emergency Health Services and The Campbell River Fire Department responded quickly after receiving the report from police and tended to the unconscious male and the flaming vehicle.

The injured man, a Campbell River resident in his 40’s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“This incident is a shocking reminder of the dangerous situations police officers can find themselves in every day,” explained Inspector Jeff Preston. “The officers during this incident showed amazing calm and bravery under immense personal danger. I’d like to thank the officers, BC Ambulance and The Campbell River Fire Department for their quick action and dedication to our community.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the Campbell River RCMP are asking the public if they have any information regarding the incident to contact them at 250-286-6221.
