Campbell River RCMP were notified of a report of a shot fired and a kidnapping at a residence on 7th Avenue in Campbell River in the morning – which was later deemed unfounded.
On June 5, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Campbell River received a call about a shot being heard from a residence on 7th Avenue in Campbell River and a potential kidnapping. Campbell River RCMP responded to the area with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team. Upon interviewing witnesses at the scene, police determined that one of the witnesses had fired a “bear banger” in hopes that someone would call 9-1-1, as the witness had no cell phone to call police to report the alleged kidnapping.
Further investigation into the alleged kidnapping was deemed unfounded and the witness has been provided with the necessary medical care he may need.
RCMP worked closely with the nearby school to ensure the safety of students and parents and staff during the morning drop off of students.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
