Police responded to a reported three-vehicle collision on Lickman Road. Upon arrival, two vehicles remained on scene, with occupants transported to hospital with injuries. The third vehicle involved was reported by witnesses to have fled the scene. Officers located the suspect vehicle and its sole occupant a short distance away, with extensive damage consistent with the collision. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested. Breath samples later confirmed the driver was over the legal limit. The driver is expected to appear in court at a later date.
The Chilliwack Fire Department reported two motorhomes found fully engulfed by fire on Elk View Road. Both trailers were involved in an earlier suspected arson on Elk View Road from April 1st. Both motorhomes were destroyed to the frame and have been assessed for salvage.
Police attended a report of a woman screaming on First Avenue and a man following her. Officers quickly determined the woman was searching for her dog and was not in distress but yelling her dog’s name. The man was located nearby and further investigation revealed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Chilliwack. He was taken into custody and held for court.
Over the last few weeks, there have been numerous reports made of theft of copper wire, including an incident on Chilliwack Lake Road last week. Due to the remoteness of the area, the exact time of the theft is unknown and limited evidence is available.
During proactive patrols conducted a few days later, officers located a man and woman loading cut copper wire into a vehicle on Elk View Road. The woman initially provided a false name. Once her identity was confirmed, it was discovered that both individuals were on court-ordered conditions prohibiting contact with one another. Both were arrested and held for court.
Officers responded to a report of a man who had been bear-sprayed at Portage Park. The victim reported his backpack had been stolen during the altercation but was unable to provide descriptions of the suspects.
The following day, police responded to reports of several young children experiencing irritation to their eyes and faces while playing at Portage Park. Officers determined the irritation was likely caused by residual bear spray from the previous evening’s incident. The park was cordoned off, and the affected area was flushed with water to ensure the site was safe for public use. The children were decontaminated and, a few hours later, were reported to have no lasting effects.
Security personnel observed a suspicious vehicle entering a construction equipment company on Progress Way. A tractor was loaded onto a trailer, however, when security activated an audio warning, the suspects fled before the tractor could be secured. The tractor slid from the trailer but was located nearby without damage. The suspects have not been identified at this time.
Officers responded later in the evening to a report of several large trucks performing burnouts in a parking lot along Luckakuck Way. The activity caused damage to the pavement and left tire debris and other garbage in the area. The vehicles had departed prior to police arrival. Information obtained suggests the gathering was a planned meet‑up organized through social media. Video footage is available, and investigators are working to obtain licence plate information to identify the registered owners of the vehicles involved.
