April 27 - Theft from Vehicle
Police responded to a report of theft from an unlocked vehicle parked at a business on Luckakuck Way. A large power tool was stolen. Security footage identified a possible suspect, who was located a short time later at a nearby business. The man was arrested and found in possession of the stolen property, which was returned to the owner. He will appear in court at a later date.
April 28 - Single vehicle collision
Police responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a power pole on Hope River Road, the second similar collision in the area within a week. The pole, located on a curve that requires full driver attention, was heavily damaged and caused power outages to several nearby homes. No injuries were reported, and alcohol was not a factor.
April 28 - Mischief
Officers received a report of extensive damage to a walking trail along Chilliwack River Road. Three individuals are reported to have caused thousands of dollars in damage to benches, trees, signage, and garbage receptacles. Invaluable cultural items were also removed from trees. The investigation continues to try and identify those responsible.
April 28 - Shoplifting
Police responded to a shoplifting report at a grocery store on Luckakuck Way. A man fled with a cart full of stolen goods but was located nearby still in possession of the items. The suspect, well known to police, was arrested and the property returned to the store. The man was also found in possession of bear spray, which he admitted was not intended for wildlife deterrence. The bear spray was seized, and he was charged under Provincial Legislation for handling a pesticide contrary to its label.
April 29 - Assault with a Weapon
Late at night, police received a report of several youths being bear sprayed on Keith Wilson Road, with one youth having been stabbed. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was later arrested and also taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction. The accused youth was held pending court.
May 1 - Impaired Driver
Report of erratic driver Chilliwack River Rd swerving into oncoming traffic and almost driving into a home. Officers attended and were able to locate the vehicle and conduct a roadside stop. The man in the driver’s seat, and lone occupant of the vehicle was exhibiting signs of impairment that was observed by the officer. Roadside testing confirmed impairment and the man was issued an immediate roadside prohibition, his vehicle was impounded and towed.
May 2 - Assault police officer
Police responded to a complaint of a man threatening people at Fairfield Park before assaulting another man and attempting to steal his scooter. The suspect, believed to be under the influence of drugs, resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer. He was safely taken into custody and later identified after initially providing a fake name. He remains in custody pending court.
Break and Enters
Police are seeing an increase in residential break and enters across Chilliwack. Many incidents involve unlocked vehicles and garage door openers being used to access homes. Residents are reminded to lock vehicles, remove valuables, and always secure garage remotes.
April 27
Damage was caused to a home on Fourth Avenue as suspects forced entry and stole thousands of dollars in irreplaceable hand tools.
April 27
An unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on Sapper’s Way was accessed, and a garage door opener was used to enter the home. A high-value mountain bike was stolen.
April 30
An unsecured garage fob was used to access a home on Swanson Street. Two vehicles, their keys, and a wallet were stolen. One vehicle was quickly recovered a short distance away. GPS tracking from a separate theft from vehicle report later led police to the second stolen vehicle. The vehicle was unoccupied and seized by police for further forensic examination.
April 30
A homeowner returned to their Armitage Street residence to find two dogs stolen from inside the home. As officers were on scene investigating, the woman believed to be responsible returned to the area and fled upon seeing police. The woman, well known to police, was arrested and will appear in court. Both dogs were later recovered unharmed from a property associated to the woman and have been reunited with their owners.
April 30
A home believed to be left unlocked on Victoria Avenue was entered. Electronics and a wallet were stolen.
May 2
An unlocked vehicle was accessed on Fern Street, allowing entry into the residence using a garage opener. Numerous electronics were stolen. GPS tracking led officers to recover most of the items nearby which had been discarded by the suspects. The items were returned to the owner.
May 3
An unlocked vehicle on Midtown Way was used to access a residence. Tools, electronics, and personal items were stolen.
