Robbery
Police responded to a robbery at a retail store on Luckakuck Way. A man allegedly entered the store and exited through a rear door with several household items. When confronted by a Loss Prevention Officer, the suspect brandished a weapon before fleeing. Police located the suspect a short time later and arrested him without incident. He will appear in court at a later date.
Serious assault
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a seriously injured man on Camrose Avenue. The investigation determined the victim had been involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested at the scene and held for court. Alcohol was a significant contributing factor.
Weapon possession
Officers stopped a man known to police who was riding a bicycle without a helmet. During the interaction, a weapon was observed on his person. Officers located several more weapons, along with pre-packaged drugs and a large sum of cash consistent with drug trafficking. The items were seized and the investigation is ongoing.
Shoplifting
Officers responded to a shoplifting incident at a store on Luckakuck Way. The suspect fled with stolen merchandise but was located a short time later near Airport Road, still in possession of the item. The suspect was arrested and later released on conditions not to attend the store and will be appearing in court at a later time.
Fraud
A resident of a senior living facility received a fraudulent text claiming their bank account had been compromised. The victim was instructed to get into a vehicle that arrived to take them to the bank. Staff at the facility recognized the scam and intervened before the victim entered the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Motor vehicle collision in backyard
Police responded to an abandoned 911 call on Thomas Road and located a vehicle that had rolled over into a residential backyard, causing significant damage. The driver was located nearby with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. An impaired driving investigation is continuing.
Break and Enters to Residence
A residence on Quarry Road was broken into using a garage door opener. Several sets of keys were stolen, and a vehicle from the residence was taken. The vehicle was recovered later the same day in downtown Chilliwack. Forensic Identification Services are assisting with the investigation.
Officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on Linwood Street, where a man entered the home and confronted the homeowner. During the incident, the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle from the residence and fled the area. The following day, officers located the stolen vehicle on Young Road. One man was found inside the vehicle and was safely arrested without incident. The investigation is ongoing.
A vehicle was broken into on Vedder mountain Road and a garage door opener was used to gain access to the adjacent home. A mountain bike and personal accessories were stolen.
An unknown suspect broke into a property on South Sumas Road and stole a small motorcycle and power tools.
A report was received of a break and enter in progress at a bakery on Young Road. Officers located the suspect nearby and he was arrested. The investigation determined money was stolen, and police linked the suspect to multiple nearby property crimes, including a vehicle break-in and damage to a smoke shop that had occurred within a few hours prior. The suspect was held for court.
Officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a vacant building on Mary Street. Two men were arrested on the property with stolen items. Both were later released on paperwork to attend court at a later time.
Stolen vehicles
Police attended a report of a male acting suspiciously behind the wheel of a vehicle on Sheffield Way. Officers soon learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. The man in the driver’s seat was arrested and observed to be exhibiting signs of intoxication. An impaired driving investigation confirmed what officers suspected. He was served with an Immediate Roadside prohibition and will be appearing in court at a later time for charges relating to the stolen vehicle.
A vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Angus Drive, struck another parked vehicle, and fled. The vehicle was recovered the next day. The investigation continues.
A vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of grocery store on Luckakuck Way after the keys were left inside while the owner went into the store.
A vehicle was stolen from Thomas Road and later found burned in another jurisdiction. All keys were accounted for, indicating the vehicle was likely started through ignition tampering.
A vehicle on Yale Road was taken overnight. Keys were left in the vehicle which made it very easy for the suspects to make a quick getaway.
Residents are again reminded to lock vehicles, never leave keys inside, secure garage door openers, and report suspicious activity immediately. These simple steps significantly reduce property crime opportunities.
