Break and Enters
An employee at a construction site on Wellington Avenue reported a trailer on the site was broken into and tools were stolen. The tools were worth several thousand dollars.
A secure parking lot on Young Road was broken into when a man allegedly caused damage to the compound exterior. A vehicle inside the compound was also broken into and several thousand dollars worth of tools were taken. The investigation continues in attempts to identify the suspect.
An overnight break and enter on Lewis Avenue occurred when an unknown suspect broke into a garage and stole an e-dirtbike and tools.
A homeowner on Chilliwack Central Road noticed damage to a barn door panel on their property. Vehicle tracks were seen leaving the property. Home electronics and a vehicle had been damaged and the home owner is still determining if anything was taken. Forensic Identification Services is assisting in the investigation.
Other Property Crimes
A man was reported to be harassing food delivery drivers in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant on Luckakuck Way. As officers attended and asked the man to leave the area, he suddenly approached one of the delivery vehicles and damaged the vehicle in front of officers. He was arrested and will be appearing in court at a later date.
A cargo trailer was reportedly stolen from a trucking company in town. After not arriving at its destination in another province, the company became suspicious. It turns out the trailer was redirected by unknown suspects to another policing jurisdiction in the lower mainland and was used to commit further crimes.
A vehicle was parked in a parking lot near Wellington Avenue and reported to have been broken into by unknown persons. Over a thousand dollar worth of valuables were taken from inside.
A Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) at a retail store on Luckakuck Way reported that a man, known to both the LPO and police, had stolen a significant amount of merchandise earlier that day, as well as during a prior incident approximately one week earlier. On this occasion, the male was stopped by the LPO before leaving the store. Police attended and arrested the man without incident, he was held for court.
An elderly woman reported that she received a phone call from someone she believed to be a family member who stated they were in an accident and needed a significant amount of money to assist. The woman, out of concern for her family member, withdrew the money and a man reportedly attended her home and collected the funds. The investigation continues to identify the man.
Traffic Collisions
A witness reported a collision between a vehicle and a hydro pole on Yale Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and was followed to a residence on Meadowbrook Drive. Police arrived and located the driver who was issued a driving suspension along with a provincial charge for failing to remain at an accident. The collision damaged the hydro police which had to be replaced.
A driver reportedly crashed their vehicle into the side of a store on Luckakuck Way. The vehicle fled the scene, but a piece of the vehicle was left behind. The investigation continues to find the vehicle.
Assaults
Police responded to an erratic man who reported being pepper sprayed on Trethewey Avenue. The victim was uncooperative and refused to provide details to police. Despite all efforts by officers, the investigation is limited due to lack of cooperation by the victim. He received medical attention from paramedics and was reported to be okay.
A man had reportedly threatened staff at a wellness centre on Trethewey Avenue. As attending officers were speaking with the man, he assaulted one of the officers. He was arrested and will appear in court.
