Impaired Driving

Police responded to a report of a rear-end collision at a train crossing on Prest Road. Police arrived and noted the responsible driver displaying signs of impairment. Roadside testing confirmed impairment, resulting in an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and vehicle impoundment.

Impaired Driving

An officer was patrolling in the downtown area and observed a man staggering outside a liquor store before entering a vehicle and driving away. The vehicle was observed making several traffic infractions before being stopped a short time later. The officer noted the driver displaying symptomology consistent with impaired driving.  Roadside testing confirmed the officer’s suspicions. An Immediate Roadside prohibition was issued with the vehicle was impounded. 

Drug Impaired

Officers attended a report of a man asleep in a running vehicle on Tamihi Way. The driver appeared under the influence of drugs, with drug paraphernalia visible. It was learned the vehicle had been involved in an earlier collision. A roadside suspension was issued, the vehicle was towed, and additional Motor Vehicle Act violation tickets were issued.

Mischief to Vehicle

A group of youths was reported to be causing a disturbance near Yale Road and Hodgins Avenue and interfering with passing motorists. When confronted by one motorist, one of the youth struck the vehicle’s side mirror. The suspects fled prior to police arrival and could not be located. Minor damage was observed on the mirror and no injuries were reported.

Disturbance 

A woman was reportedly throwing items inside a pharmacy on Yale Road and upsetting other customers. Officers attended and located the woman nearby who was arrested after trying to flee the area. She appeared intoxicated and in medical distress. Medical care was prioritized over the investigation, which remains ongoing. 

Drug Seizure

An officer patrolling Vedder Road observed a large cloud of smoke coming from bushes in the area. Upon investigation, a recently extinguished fire and what appeared to be a newly established encampment were located. Individuals nearby were very quick to clarify they were not associated with the encampment. A suspected stolen jacket was found at the scene, however, no one claimed ownership. When officers checked the pockets, they located a quantity of suspected drugs consistent with trafficking. The drugs were seized along with the mysteriously ownerless jacket which were submitted for disposal.

Stolen Vehicle 

A vehicle was stolen overnight from Dublin Drive after being left with keys inside. A group of youths were reportedly seen in the area attempting to access vehicles around the same time. The vehicle remains outstanding and no suspects have been identified.

Break Enter and Theft

An E-Bike was stolen from a garage on Chartwell Drive in the middle of the night. An unlocked vehicle was used to access the garage via a garage door opener.

A residence under construction on Third Avenue was broken into overnight and several large appliances were taken by the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, including video canvassing.

Seasonal Policing Highlights

The Seasonal Policing Unit has begun summer deployment in Cultus Lake and surrounding backcountry areas, generating several proactive enforcement actions over the weekend:

• Excessive Speed: A vehicle traveling 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Columbia Valley Road was ticketed and towed.
• Impaired Driving: A highly intoxicated driver was located leaving a restaurant in Cultus Lake. Roadside testing confirmed impairment and an Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued and the vehicle impounded.
• Marine Safety Enforcement: Multiple jet ski operators were observed, in separate incidents, exceeding speed limits within restricted zones designated for swimmers and non-motorized vessels. Numerous warnings were issued under the Canada Shipping Act.
• Recovered Stolen Vehicle: A stolen vehicle was located on Bench Forest Service Road, significantly damaged, and towed.
