Theft from vehicles
We have seen an increase in thefts of vehicles, and thefts from vehicles across the community over the past week. Many of these incidents were preventable.
You can help reduce your risk of becoming a victim by following these tips:
- Do not leave keys in your vehicle
- Always lock your vehicle, even when parked at home
- Ensure all windows and sunroofs are fully closed
- Never leave your vehicle running and unattended
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle or keep them out of sight
- Use your vehicle’s alarm system, if equipped
- Do not leave garage door openers inside your vehicle
Taking a few extra seconds to secure your vehicle can make a significant difference.
If you notice any suspicious activity, please report it to the police.
Break and Enters
Multiple break and enter incidents were reported, including storage locker thefts on Industrial Way and a trailer break in at a job site on Ashwell Road, where a significant quantity of tools were stolen. In another incident, a security company monitoring a property on Wolfe Road observed a man and woman actively stealing copper wire.
Police also responded to reports of a suspicious man in the Sleepy Hollow neighbourhood wearing clothing believed to be recently stolen from a nearby campground. Officers located the individual and determined he had allegedly broken into a building and stolen clothing. He was arrested and held in custody pending court.
Serious Collision Investigation
A single-vehicle motorcycle collision on Hopedale Road left a rider with serious injuries after the bike left the roadway and became partially submerged in water. The rider was transported to hospital, and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended. The roadway was temporarily closed for investigation.
High-Speed Driving Leads to Drug Seizure
An officer observed a vehicle travelling approximately 160 km/h on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Yale Road off-ramp. A traffic stop was conducted on Knight Road, where unstamped tobacco was observed by officers in plain view. The man was arrested and further investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and potential break in tools contrary to the driver’s court-ordered conditions. The driver showed signs of impairment, received a 24-hour driving prohibition, and was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed. He was held for court.
Youth Drug Use and Enforcement
Police observed three youths openly consuming cannabis products on Belair Drive. One youth took responsibility for the substances, resulting in multiple violation tickets totaling $690. All youths were safely returned to their guardians.
Weapons offences
Officers responded to reports of a youth carrying what appeared to be a firearm in Salish Park. The individual fled but was arrested after a short foot pursuit. A replica firearm was seized, and the youth was held in custody after they were found to be in breach of their probation conditions.
In a separate incident, a man threatened security staff and others with a knife at a business on Young Road. He fled on foot but was quickly located and arrested. Police seized the weapon along with suspected methamphetamine located on the man.
Seasonal Policing Activities
Warmer weather conditions influenced call volumes, with a slight decrease compared to the previous weekend when higher temperatures drew more visitors to the Cultus Lake area.
Dirtbike Collision
Police attended a dirt bike collision on Liumchen Creek Forest Service Road involving an adult rider and a child passenger. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries; however, the rider exhibited signs of intoxication. The child was transported to hospital, and an impaired driving investigation remains ongoing.
Speeding E-Motorcycle results in numerous tickets
Two men were observed by officers riding an Electric Motorcycle travelling at 85km/hr in a posted 50km/hr zone in Cultus Lake. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, and the vehicle was not legally permitted for road use in BC. A traffic stop resulted in the driver being issued five violation tickets totaling $1,156.
Motorcycle collision
Police responded to a report of a single motorcycle collision on Columbia Valley Highway. The lone rider left the roadway on a curve, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries requiring transport to hospital. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor. The collision is attributed to speed and rider error.
