The individual believed to have been consuming the drugs was identified as the passenger, while the driver appeared sober. Police learned the passenger had outstanding arrest warrants from Chilliwack for theft and assault. The man was subsequently arrested and suspected illicit drugs were located on his person. The man was held for court and the suspected drugs were seized.

Assault

A report was received of an assault that occurred at Mellard Park in the middle of the night. A nearby resident allegedly approached a man and woman regarding excessive noise in the park. The man and woman then allegedly assaulted the resident, causing injuries. Both suspects were located a short distance away, arrested, and are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Weapon call

Security guards at a shopping plaza on Yale Road reported a man who had been asked to leave the property had displayed a knife before leaving on foot.  Police located and arrested a man matching the suspect description nearby who is well known to police. A knife was located and seized in relation to this incident.

Wanted man arrested on bike

While searching for a suspicious man reported riding a bicycle along Airport Road, an officer located an individual matching the description. Police checks revealed the man was wanted on outstanding Chilliwack warrants for breaching probation and two counts of break and enter from February 2026. He was arrested and held for court.

Proactive work

Arrest made after stolen vehicle located

Officers observed a suspicious vehicle at a gas station on Young Road. Police checks confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Chilliwack two days earlier. A man seated in the driver’s seat was safely arrested without incident and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Prohibited driver

While conducting proactive patrols on Mary Street, an officer observed a driver who did not match the description of the vehicle’s registered owner. A traffic stop was conducted and it turns out the man in the driver’s seat was prohibited from driving. The man was arrested and will be appearing in court at a later date.

Prohibited weapon seized

An officer conducted a traffic stop on Yale Road and observed unstamped tobacco in plain view. Both occupants were arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle located additional unstamped tobacco and a collapsible baton, which is a prohibited weapon. All items were seized for further investigation.

Wanted man arrested

During patrols on Yale Road near Williams Street, an officer located an intoxicated man walking in the middle of the roadway. Police determined the man had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. The man became resistant and initially pulled away from the officer before being safely arrested without further incident. He was held in custody for court.

Seasonal policing activities

The Chilliwack RCMP Seasonal Policing Team conducted proactive marine safety patrols throughout the weekend using the police boat:

  • Eight powered vessel inspections were completed.
  • Three vessels were found to be non-compliant with safety requirements.
  • 18 paddleboarders were spoken with.
  • Six paddleboarders were found without the required safety equipment and were directed back to shore to retrieve the appropriate gear.
  • Officers also observed several paddleboarders tethered to navigational buoys, which is prohibited under the Canada Shipping Act.

The Chilliwack RCMP reminds all recreational water users to ensure they carry the required safety equipment and familiarize themselves with boating regulations before heading onto the water.
