E- dirt bike riders arrested

Police responded to reports of several youths on e-dirt bikes ringing doorbells on Wilson Road, threatening to come back, and dared the homeowner to call police.  The dare was accepted. When officers arrived and engaged with the youth, they fled. Two were quickly arrested by another officer who was waiting nearby. The e-dirt bikes were seized, and the youths were released to their parents as the investigation continues.

Property crime highlights

Police responded to several property related crimes over the past week and continue to investigate the circumstances.

A motorhome was damaged and rummaged through on Chilliwack Mountain Road, no property was reported stolen.

A cargo trailer at a worksite on Spadina Avenue was broken into. A significant quantity of tools and equipment was stolen.

A pickup truck was stolen overnight from Portage Avenue. The following day, the vehicle was located in Fairfield Island by officers and two occupants were arrested as part of the investigation.

A suspicious flat-deck trailer was reported abandoned on Woodbine Street and found without licence plates. Police identified the owner and learned the trailer had been stolen only hours earlier from a farm on Prest Road. The owner had not yet noticed the trailer was missing and it was returned undamaged.

A shed on Kitchen Road was forcibly entered. Suspects left with a UTV, RC vehicles, and tools. They also attempted to steal a truck by damaging the ignition but were unsuccessful in leaving with the vehicle.

A suspect forced entry into a garage on Robson Street and left with a bicycle, leaving their own bicycle behind. Surveillance footage captured the incident, but the suspect has not been identified.

Traffic Collisions and Incidents

A motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries requiring hospital attendance after a vehicle turning left at Yale Road and Upper Prairie Road failed to yield. Impairment was not a factor. The driver of the vehicle received a violation ticket for failing to yield.

A reported erratic driver on Eagle Landing Parkway allegedly struck a stopped vehicle, collided with three additional parked vehicles, and rolled their own vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to hospital for treatment. The investigation remains ongoing.

Officers also removed seven impaired drivers from the roadways through proactive patrols across Chilliwack.

Crimes Against Persons

A youth suffered injuries after allegedly being struck with a glass bottle during an altercation on Yale Road with another youth. Police located and arrested the suspect shortly afterward who was held in custody for court. The parties are known to each other.

A man reported he was threatened with bear spray in Salish Park by another man before he took his E-Scooter. The victim was able to track the E-Scooter to a nearby apartment building. The scooter was successfully located in the hallway and it appears attempts had been made to conceal the e-scooter before being abandoned. The e-scooter was reunited with its owner and the investigation continues to identify the suspect.

Additionally, officers responded to 16 intimate partner violence related calls, three of which resulted in criminal charges being laid against the accused.
