Suspect sought after attempted robbery at ATM

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect after an alleged attempted robbery occurred at an ATM outside of the BMO Bank of Montreal in Courtenay.
On February 23, 2026, around 8:20 p.m., Comox Valley RCMP responded to the Bank of Montreal located at 585 England Ave. in Courtenay, BC after receiving a report of an attempted robbery at the ATM. During the course of the investigation, police learned that a male suspect approached a female victim using the ATM and allegedly attempted to rob her money by producing an edged weapon. The suspect was not successful and subsequently departed the area.
Police are releasing surveillance footage of the suspect and are asking the public for assistance, should anyone recognize him.
He is described as:
- Caucasian male;
- Mid to late 40’s;
- Approximately 5’10”;
- Wearing a dark green rain jacket with a small yellow “Weed Man” logo.
