To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing today to commend two RCMP officers, Officer Howse and Officer Cada, for their exceptional service on the afternoon of July 17th, when my partner, LM, and I found ourselves stranded north of Sayward.
We are both 69 years old and seasoned campers with many years of experience on Vancouver Island. However, this was our inaugural camping trip with a new to us truck and camper. Unfortunately, despite our planning, we ran out of gas just before reaching Sayward. To make matters more challenging, we were in a zone with no cellular service and were unable to contact BCAA for assistance.
Earlier, we had passed Officer Howse as he had stopped a speeding car, and we hoped to flag him down for help as he continued south on Highway 19. To our great relief, he came by less than 10 minutes later. Officer Howse not only arranged for us to get a Jerry can of gas, but he also stayed with us until his partner, Officer Cada, arrived to assist.
During our 1/2 hour together, Officer Howse was genuinely interested in our situation and ensured that we were safe and away from potential danger on the side of the road. My partner had the opportunity to share stories with Officer Howse about their mutual experiences traveling by motorcycle throughout BC, which added a personal and comforting touch to the encounter.
What initially seemed like a worrisome situation turned into one of the highlights of our camping trip to Cluxewe, thanks to the kindness and professionalism of these two officers. Their actions left a lasting impression on us, and we now look back on this incident with gratitude.
We have the utmost respect and regard for Officers Howse and Cada and the way they represented the RCMP. We kindly request that you convey our deepest appreciation to them. Please feel free to share our names and the details of this event with them.
Sincerest regards,
JW - Courtenay, BC
LM - Quadra Island, BC

Dear Sirs
On Monday 12th August 2024 I was travelling with my wife, son and daughter in law and her parents in a hire vehicle travelling on Highway 99 towards Whistler.
About 5k out of Pemberton descending Mount Curry when the brakes failed, overheated and smoking profusely. Very fortunately we were able to stop the vehicle in a small pull off zone before encountering a very steep descent and switchback in the road.
All our efforts to contact the hire company ( operating out of a call centre in Texas ) proved fruitless due to a poor and intermittent mobile signal along with a complete inability on their behalf to grasp the potential seriousness of our situation.
We felt the need to contact the emergency service and spoke immediately without difficulty to the RCMP. They immediately understood our predicament and advised an officer would come out to us as soon as possible.
Our relief was palpable when some 15 - 20 minutes later your Officer Devin pulled up to assist us.
Without any delay and with the utmost courtesy and efficiency Devin provided us with first class assistance.
He first made sure the family were safe and not at risk from passing traffic. His inspection of our vehicle concluded that we were probably best not to consider proceeding given the extreme temperature the brakes were still displaying.
We explained our unsuccessful efforts in trying to get our hire company to arrange a vehicle pick up and replacement. Devin quickly arranged for a local garage to come and pick up the vehicle and we were able to organise a taxi to complete our journey to Whistler.
There is absolutely no doubt that without Devin attending and carrying out his duties in such an exemplary manner we would have been left stranded in a very difficult position.
We cannot thank him enough. Please pass on to Devin our heartfelt thanks and appreciation from the whole family.

My husband and I wanted to send in our utmost praise and thanks. Sergeant Smith, of the Fraser South Zone with BC Highway Patrol, went over and above.
Back in June, we blew a tire just around a corner on Hwy 3 past Manning Lodge. Traffic was barreling around the corner as we tried to get our spare tire out from underneath, let alone get it on. Sgt. Smith drove by and saw us. He turned around and parked a ways behind us, diverting traffic. He also called around to try and find a tire service that would come help us but Nobody would. My husband and I got the spare on and there was not much air in it, so Sgt. Smith followed us back to Manning Lodge. Once there we were at a safe location and able to call for help. We truly believe that without Sgt. Smith's help, we would have lost our truck/camper that day on that corner with traffic whipping by far above the speed limit.
Thank you is never enough in these situations. Sgt. Smith was our angel in disguise that day.
Thank you, Sgt. Smith!

Last night, my neighbour and I called the RCMP Non emergency line to report bags and a suitcase that we had found hidden in the bushes of our Strata property. We were concerned that they had been stolen and someone would be looking for them.
Frances and I both want to say how impressed we were with Constable Kathy Song, a fairly new addition to the NV RCMP Detachment. She was positive, informative, friendly and professional. She took her time with us, answered our questions, checked the grounds where the items had been found and left her card before she left. We both feel she is/will be a great addition to the NV RCMP detachment.
Our sincere gratitude,
Lynda and Frances

I would like to start by saying that I am speaking on behalf of the Caledonia Dry Grad and Prom Committee in Terrace, BC.
Last Saturday, May 11 we held a car wash fundraiser at Terrace Totem Ford. At our fundraiser, we had a bbq and car wash, as well as a "dunk tank" by donation.
I had reached out to a local RCMP member, Sgt. Shawn McLaughlin and asked if he would be willing to sit on the chair in the dunk tank. Not only did Sgt. Shawn McLaughlin show up, he was immersed in the freezing cold water numerous times. His presence among the graduates, younger siblings, parents and other numerous community members was not only felt but so appreciated. There were line-ups of laughing and cheering youth and adults, where after he was soaking wet he continued to volunteer his time washing cars, and engaging with the youth and public in a show of RCMP support that will not be forgotten.
On behalf of the Dry grad and prom committee, we would like to once again thank RCMP member Sgt. Shawn Mclaughin for serving and protecting our community, and for his unwavering support and presence at such an important event. A stand up person who we strongly feel deserves to be recognized for his contribution to the community.
Sincerely,
Andrea Komlos

I just wanted to provide some positive feedback regarding my latest experience with two officers, Cst. Creelman and Cst. Kawano, with the Kelowna RCMP Detachment.
They assisted my nephew last night at 12:00am with a landlord tenant dispute. They assisted with the incident and created a positive outcome for all parties involved. They were very professional and helpful in assisting to resolve the issue and create a positive outcome and atmosphere. They were professional and friendly. They were very open in their discussion and provided us with a better understanding the law. They were very respectful as well. I couldn’t have asked for a better interaction with the RCMP.
I would just like to thank the two officers and the Kelowna RCMP Detachment for their services.

We were very concerned about the personal safety of my sister. We were led to believe we could get a Peace Bond through the RCMP Detachment by information posted on Canada’s Government site on line. We initially contacted Constable Medernach by phone. We explained our concerns and he invited us to come to the station and discuss our situation in person.
Unfortunately, we were very frustrated by the process of attaining a Peace Bond. It’s a lengthy process and it does not address the needs of someone in fear for their lives. The prevention of a crime before one happens is the best way to deal with a situation for all involved. Unfortunately, our present legal system does not seem to have this view as the process of attaining a Peace Bond is cumbersome, difficult and a lengthy process. This is unfortunate, as a Peace Bond is an excellent tool to separate individuals before violence or a crime can occur. Many victims are confused by this process and feel that the present system dissuades individuals from bothering to ever get a Peace Bond.
This RCMP Constable Medernach was excellent. He remained calm and professional. He eloquently explained the entire process to us. He answered and clarified all our questions. We respected how this RCMP Constable took the time to take our statements and clear up all of the misunderstanding we may have had with the process of attaining a Peace Bond. We particularly liked the examples he used to address his points and explanations. Furthermore, he explained a policemen’s perspective on our situation which help us understand the limits and role of police.
We appreciated his patience because we were not receptive to his ideas at the beginning of our meeting. He persisted and his explanations were well-organized and well-presented. We left the meeting feeling good about the RCMP and with a working knowledge of how to proceed. A job well done!!!
We just wanted to thank Constable Medernach for his excellent work. We admired his dedication, and his effort to go the extra mile. We were impressed with his work ethic and his willingness to execute the law in a professional and pleasant manner.
Being a RCMP Constable can be a thankless job. Often Officers deal with difficult people, difficult situations and they put their lives on the life. We thank you for your service and wanted you to know that you had a positive effect on us today.
You are doing an excellent job and you make a positive impact on the people you serve. We are very appreciative and value your contributions. We are so impressed we thought your superiors should know what a quality constable is employed there.
Again a special thanks to all RCMP Officers, we admire and value your service.
Sincerely,

The professionalism and patience demonstrated by the RCMP members, and all emergency workers is to be commended.
Teresa and I watched the news, understood the pressure you were all under to get a very difficult job done, yet didn’t deviate from being the ultimate professionals.
One has to remember that the unruly with their personal agendas, are a small percentage. Your supporters and those that can’t be heard are on the other side of the lake or home staying out of the way. They are the larger percentage.
Thanks to all the frontline workers.
Mike & Teresa
