Coquitlam RCMP and Coquitlam Fire Rescue have completed a large-scale joint training exercise aimed at improving coordination during critical incidents. The full-day event, held at Douglas College on Sunday, October 19, 2025, brought together first responders for immersive, scenario-based drills designed to enhance real-time collaboration in high-risk situations.
The Rescue Task Force training program, rolled out in Coquitlam in 2024, focuses on realistic emergency scenarios that require seamless cooperation between police and fire personnel. To date, approximately 200 RCMP officers and 100 firefighters have participated in the training, supported by more than 100 volunteers who assist with logistics and role-playing to simulate complex incidents.
Participants engage in joint tactical exercises that mirror real-world emergencies, ensuring both agencies are equipped to respond swiftly and effectively while working side by side.
“This initiative was made possible through the collaboration and support of multiple public safety partners, reinforcing our shared commitment to community safety and resilience,” said Inspector Balaban, Acting Officer in Charge, Coquitlam RCMP.
“Realistic exercises like these prepare us to ensure coordinated communication and response at our most challenging emergencies, resulting in enhanced safety for first responders and the residents of Coquitlam.” Said Scott Young, Fire Chief. “Coquitlam Fire Rescue is proud to work with our community safety partners to prepare to respond quickly and efficiently.”
Training is essential to emergency preparedness. It keeps first responders sharp, fosters teamwork, and ensures rapid, coordinated action when it matters most.
