Coquitlam RCMP is hosting Bike Smart – Kids Cycling Safety Event before back-to-school season. 

Coquitlam RCMP Community Policing is inviting families with children to attend a fun and interactive cycling safety event designed to help children build confidence and learn essential road safety skills.

Taking place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon, Bike Smart offers children aged 8 and older the opportunity to practice safe cycling techniques through hands-on learning activities, including obstacle courses, mock intersections, and bicycle safety education. Participants will also learn about safe riding habits, road awareness, proper helmet use, bicycle safety equipment, and how to navigate common traffic situations in an age-appropriate controlled environment.

"Bike Smart is a fun way for children to learn important safety skills they can use every day," said Sergeant Adriana O’Malley, Media Relations Officer for Coquitlam RCMP. "We encourage families to come out and take advantage of this educational opportunity before the busy back-to-school season."

The event is geared toward riders with beginner to intermediate skill levels who are already comfortable riding a bicycle. Parents/Guardians must remain on site for the entire session. The event will proceed rain or shine.

Session 1: 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Session 2: 10:30 a.m. to noon
Location: Town Centre Park  - Pinetree Lot E (located near intersection of Pinetree Way and David Avenue)
Recommended Age: 8 years and older

• Certified bicycle helmet
