Trafficking investigation leads to arrest, seizure of drugs and gun

On July 30, 2026, the Fort St. John RCMP's Street Enforcement Team (SET) initiated a drug trafficking investigation after identifying individuals from the Lower Mainland believed to be involved in the sale of illicit drugs and associated with organized crime groups.

As the investigation progressed, officers gathered evidence indicating the suspects were actively involved in drug trafficking within the community. Both individuals were subsequently arrested. Following the arrests, SET investigators obtained and executed a search warrant on the hotel room where the suspects were staying.

During the search, officers seized multiple packages of suspected illicit drugs that were pre-packaged for sale, a quantity of Canadian currency, and a loaded Glock handgun equipped with an extended magazine. Additional evidence consistent with drug trafficking was also located.

“This investigation is an excellent example of the proactive and dedicated work being carried out by our Street Enforcement Team. These officers work tirelessly to identify, investigate, and target individuals involved in organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, and the violence that often accompanies those criminal activities,” said Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Commander of the Fort St. John RCMP Plainclothes Units. “The seizure of a loaded firearm alongside suspected illicit drugs demonstrates the significant risk posed by those who choose to profit from criminal activity. Every firearm removed from our streets and every quantity of drugs prevented from reaching our community contributes directly to the safety and well-being of our residents. Community safety remains at the forefront of everything we do, and Fort St. John RCMP will continue to take decisive action against individuals whose activities threaten the security of our community."

The two individuals arrested, a 28-year-old female and a 33-year-old male, have since been released while the investigation continues. Any potential charges are subject to further investigation as well as the charge assessment process by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
