On September 6, 2025 at 6:21am, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of a disturbance with a male outside by a vehicle, yelling and swinging a knife around by a vehicle in the area of 78A Street and 81st Avenue, Fort St John.
Frontline police officers attended and located one male sitting in a vehicle. Based on the details of the call the male was arrested. Through investigation the officers located ammunition on the person, a short sword, a loaded sawed-off rifle and a second firearm in the vehicle.
Gaven Jackson was arrested, held for court and is facing approved charges of:
- 1 count of Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition,
- 1 count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle,
- 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order, and
- 1 count of Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized.
“This is an exemplary case where the public saw something that didn’t seem right and they reported it to police,” said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP. “In this instance, the result of the investigation lead to the arrest of an individual who is not supposed to have firearms. It also resulted in the seizure of weapons, likely stopping future firearms related crimes from happening in our city, and getting them out of the hands of the criminal element.”
Jackson remains in police custody until his next court appearance on September 8, 2026.
