The Fort St John RCMP is urging visitors and residents of Fort St John to store firearms legally and responsibly during travel.

In the early morning hours of September 15th, 2026, several firearms were stolen from a locked vehicle parked overnight at a Fort St John, BC, hotel. Unfortunately, this type of incident is not atypical in Fort St John, particularly during hunting season.

The Fort St John RCMP continues to see similar preventable thefts from parked vehicles, mainly while parked overnight and unattended for extended periods of time; this occurs irrespective of the vehicle being locked.

Constable Christiaan Dreyer, Media Relations Officer with the Fort St John RCMP, stated, “Despite Fort St John being a northern destination for hunting, it is a city, and every city experiences thefts from motor vehicles overnight. Please ensure you do not leave your firearms in your personal vehicles overnight while visiting our city; Every time this type of theft occurs, more firearms end up in the hands of criminals.”
