The Fort St. John RCMP can confirm that human remains located in the Peace Region in June, 2026, have been identified as those of Raymond Chalifoux, who was reported missing in 2015.

On May 25, 2015, Raymond Chalifoux was reported missing after leaving the Fort St. John Hospital against the recommendations of medical staff. An extensive missing person investigation was undertaken at the time; however, his whereabouts remained unknown.

On June 8, 2026, human remains were located along the Peace River near the community of Old Fort, BC. The Fort St. John RCMP, with assistance from the BC Coroners Service and specialized investigative resources, attended the area and conducted an examination. On October 19, 2026, following forensic analysis and investigation, the BC Coroners Service notified the Fort St. John RCMP that the remains had been positively identified as Raymond Chalifoux.

"While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, being able to identify Mr. Chalifoux and provide answers after more than 11 years brings some closure to a long-standing missing person investigation," said Sergeant Ian Rissanen of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.

At this time, investigators do not have any reason to believe that Chalifoux's death was the result of foul play.

No further details are available at this time, additional information may be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information regarding the circumstances surrounding Chalifoux's death is asked to contact Constable Shaun Wagantall of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit at 250-787-8100.
