Stolen vehicle recovered after fire

Hope RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen from a residence on Rupert Street. The homeowner returned home to discover their vehicle missing from the property. Later that same day, emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire on Union Bar Road. The stolen vehicle was located at the scene and is believed to have been involved in starting the fire. The vehicle sustained significant fire damage. The investigation remains ongoing.

Break and enter, theft of vehicle, and collision

A homeowner reported a break and enter and theft of a vehicle from a residence on Wardle Street in Hope. The complainant advised that upon returning home, they discovered their vehicle missing from the driveway. The vehicle keys were also reported stolen from inside the residence. Several hours later, police received multiple reports of a collision involving the stolen vehicle on 7^th Avenue. Witnesses reported the vehicle had been driving erratically before leaving the road and colliding with a pile of rocks. Four occupants were seen fleeing the area following the collision. The investigation continues.

Intoxicated driver without a license arrested

Hope RCMP received a report of a man in distress parked in a vehicle near the Laidlaw Road off-ramp. The lone occupant was believed to be under the influence of drugs. Officers attended and identified the driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. A roadside breath test was administered and returned a negative result for alcohol. Once out of the vehicle, the man continued acting erratically. Police checks revealed his driver's licence had been cancelled the previous year. When advised he could not drive due to his apparent level of impairment and lack of a valid licence, the man became agitated and attempted to flee the area. He was arrested and held in police custody until sober and capable of caring for himself. The man was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without a valid licence and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.

Prohibited driver arrested in stolen vehicle

Officers responded to a report of two men who appeared to be falling asleep near a vehicle parked in a parking lot on Hope Princeton Way. When police arrived on scene, they observed a man asleep just outside of the vehicle, and a second man who was unconscious and slouched over the steering wheel of the vehicle which was still running. The man in the vehicle was awoken and told police he was prohibited from driving. The man was arrested for further investigation. Later that day, the vehicle was reported stolen from a nearby neighborhood in Hope. The man is expected to appear in court at a later date.
