Impaired driver arrested after collision

Officers responded to a single-vehicle collision near Exit 170 in Hope after a vehicle struck a hydro pole. Witnesses reported seeing the driver flee the scene on foot. Police quickly located the driver, confirmed his well-being, and observed signs of impairment. The driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a “fail” and then refused to provide a second sample. He was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Youth arrested following assault

A man reported being assaulted on Fraser Avenue after confronting a youth he believed was trying door handles on vehicles in the area. Responding officers located both the victim and the youth, who was being restrained by a bystander. The youth was observed yelling, struggling, and showing signs of impairment. He resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. The victim had injuries and required medical treatment. The youth, who was not injured, is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Man arrested for damaging passing vehicle

A motorist reported a man throwing rocks into traffic on Flood Hope Road. One of the rocks struck the complainant's vehicle, causing substantial damage. Officers attended and located a man matching the description throwing large sticks into the roadway. The man, who is known to police, was arrested for mischief. Police discovered he had a variety of other rocks in his possession and observed additional rocks scattered across the road. Investigators learned the man had been warned by police earlier that day for similar behaviour that had not caused any damage.  Despite the warning, he chose to continue. He will be appearing in court at a later date.

Residential break and enter

Hope RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a residence on Rupert Street. It had occurred some time in the preceding two days. The homeowner was out of town when the incident occurred and returned to discover damage to the residence and numerous personal items had been stolen from inside. 

Safety Reminder: If you are away from home, consider having someone check on your property, use timers on lights, secure all doors and windows, and consider video surveillance to help deter thieves and assist police if a crime occurs.
