Wrong-way driver on Highway 1

Hope RCMP responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 1 after receiving reports of a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes toward Hope. Officers attended and located the lone occupants of both vehicles. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment. Police observed that one driver appeared confused and may have been experiencing a medical episode. There were no indications of impairment by either driver. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

Stolen vehicle recovered

A resident reported their vehicle had been stolen overnight from their home on 6th Avenue. The owner remained in possession of all vehicle keys, and there were no immediate leads regarding how the vehicle was taken. The vehicle was later located abandoned and stuck in the mud at the bottom of a sand pit on Ross Road. The investigation remains ongoing with assistance from Forensic Identification Services.

Impaired driver removed from the road

Hope RCMP received a report of a pickup truck being driven aggressively on Union Bar Road. The caller reported confronting the occupants, who appeared intoxicated and became confrontational before driving away. Officers located the vehicle on 6th Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Open liquor containers were observed inside the vehicle. Police records checks revealed the driver had previously received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) in Hope in June 2026 and was not in possession of a valid BC driver's licence. The driver displayed signs of impairment and provided two "Fail" readings on an Approved Screening Device. As a result, the driver received a further 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Additional violation tickets were issued to the driver for not having a driver’s licence. Police also determined the registered owner, who was the same registered owner associated to the vehicle involved in the driver's previous IRP, was unaware the vehicle was being used by the driver. The owner was reminded of the importance of carefully controlling access to their vehicle and has now lost access to it for 30 days because of the impound.

E-Scooter theft suspect arrested

A complainant reported their e-scooter had been stolen from a restaurant on Old Hope Princeton Way after it had been left unsecured. Video surveillance captured a suspect leaving the area with the scooter. Later that day, officers located a man matching the suspect's description while on patrol and arrested him. The suspect advised police he had already sold the scooter but would attempt to recover it. To date, the e-scooter has not been recovered. The suspect is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Impaired driver located inside vehicle near river

Officers responded to a report of a woman slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Wardle Street near the Fraser River. Police located a vehicle parked at the location with three occupants who all displayed signs of impairment. Officers also observed open liquor containers and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The driver was unable to complete roadside sobriety testing due to being bound by a wheelchair and was issued a 24-hour driver's licence suspension. Violation tickets were also issued for open liquor offences, and the vehicle was towed.

Commercial vehicle drivers arrested for drug possession

A concerned citizen reported observing the driver of a semi-truck on Flood Hope Road consuming drugs. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with a man who identified himself as the driver. He consented to a search of his backpack by police which resulted in suspected heroin being located. The man was subsequently arrested for drug possession and told officers it was actually his passenger who had been consuming drugs. A further search of the truck located more suspected heroin along with open liquor and unstamped tobacco. As the investigation continued, a second man approached police and identified himself as the owner and passenger of the truck. This man was also arrested and a search of his person located more suspected heroin. To ensure public safety, both men were issued 24-hour driving prohibitions due to concerns of drug impairment, their driver's licences were seized, and the commercial vehicle was secured at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing and is subject to charge assessment by the BC Prosecution Service.

Property crime prevention reminder

Hope RCMP continues to investigate several recent property crime incidents, including thefts from vehicles on Rupert Street and 6th Avenue, as well as an attempted vehicle theft on Rupert Street. Residents are reminded to remove valuables from vehicles, lock doors, and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
