With return of spring and longer sunny days, we return to the outdoors, streets, roads and sidewalks for a variety of activities.

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Unit is reminding road users to slow down and share the road, specifically in school and construction zones as we take advantage of sunshine and longer days. Please be aware of changing speed limits in construction zones and more activity in and around school zones.

“School zones and many city construction zones are 30 km/hour,” states Sandro Piroddi, Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Coordinator. “We are reminding the community to slow down, be aware of their surroundings and obey speed signs.”

On Thursday April 23, 2026, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Unit Speed Watch Volunteers will be out in the 2200-block of Young Street reminding drivers to slow down through the detour route that accesses the airport.

“The detour route cuts through neighbourhoods that sees lots of community activity, such as bikes and pedestrians,” said Sandro Piroddi.  “We want to be a visible reminder to drivers to slow down and watch for neighbourhood activity on their way to and from the airport.”
