A man remains in custody today after allegedly stealing a city bus and getting into a collision on Saturday night.
At approximately 9:50 p.m. on Saturday April 25, 2026, frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP were called to the 500-block of Lansdowne Street for a report of a collision between a Transit Bus and pick-up.
“When officers arrived, they learned a 55-year-old man from Vancouver had stolen the bus while the driver had temporarily stepped away,” states S/Sgt. Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP. “Soon after, the suspect drove into the back of a pick-up truck that was traveling westbound in the 500-block of Lansdowne Street, thankfully the no one was physically injured.”
The accused, Steven Mehlenbacher was held in custody.
The collision caused a brief traffic disruption while the investigation was underway.
