A new water safety video is now streaming on social media sites reminding the public some ways to stay safe this summer while enjoying our local waters.

On July 9, 2026, a short video promoting water safety was posted to YouTube. The video was made locally in collaboration with City of Kamloops, Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops Search and Rescue, Kamloops Fire Rescue and the Kamloops RCMP Detachment which highlights the dangers associated with the waters in the area.

“The video educates the public about the many dangers of water using a realistic scenario,” said Corporal Dana Napier Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.  “It will be promoted on many social media platforms to reach a larger audience.”

Water Safety Tips:

  • Refrain from alcohol consumption when near or on the water
  • Everyone should wear a lifejacket near rivers and lakes
  • Warm air does not mean warm water – water temperatures can remain cold
  • Watch children closely
