The Kamloops RCMP Detachment would like to remind the public of some rules relating to E-Scooter use during the pilot project.
Kamloops is a participating E-Scooter pilot project community and with the increase in E-scooter use and as part of the ongoing safety initiatives from the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Unit, comes a reminder that there are dangers associated with E-Scooter use and fines for improper and unsafe use.
“We are seeing more E-scooter use throughout the city and want to educate the community while keeping in mind that enforcement is still an option,” said Sandro Piroddi, Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Coordinator. “Our goal is to prevent injuries and remind all users to ride responsibly especially as students are heading back to school in the coming days.”
“As students head back to school and more people are out walking, cycling, riding e-bikes and using e-scooters, it's important for everyone to stay alert and share the road safely,” said Ingrid Brakop, ICBC Road Safety and Community Coordinator. “Drivers should slow down and watch carefully for other road users, especially near schools and crosswalks. By looking out for one another and making safe choices, we can help prevent crashes and keep our communities safe.”
Below are some of the fines related to E-Scooter safety violations:
- Under 16 years-of-age - $109.00 fine
- Riding without a helmet - $29.00 fine
- Riding on sidewalk - $109.00 fine
- More than one rider - $109.00 fine
Knowing and following the rules can help to prevent injuries and fines. The Kamloops RCMP Detachment encourages all road users to stay informed and prioritize safety for everyone.
