Moving forward the Kelowna RCMP Detachment priorities of ‘being present in neighbourhoods’ and ‘driving results,’ Kelowna RCMP’s enforcement teams continue to move the needle in combatting the sale of illicit drugs in the community. Efforts of the teams are often aligned to disrupt the illicit drug trade which can fuel the prevalence of property crime, violence, and weapons in the community. Two recent and unrelated investigations show some of the work the teams have been undertaking.
KGET traffic stop nets drugs and a firearm
On March 13, 2026, Kelowna RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (KGET) officers noted a suspicious vehicle while on routine patrol. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and while interacting with the driver and passenger, located a loaded handgun and drugs allegedly packaged for sale.
CRU executes search warrant at problem residence
On March 17, 2026, Kelowna RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1000-block of Lawrence Avenue as part of a separate drug trafficking investigation.
Items seized during the search warrant include:
- 307 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 117 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 53 grams of suspected cocaine
- 45 millilitres of suspected gamma hydroxybutyrate
- 47 tablets of suspected prescription opioid
- Drug trafficking paraphernalia
- $5,950 in cash
The suspected drugs and related trafficking equipment were seized as part of an investigation targeting the distribution of toxic illicit drugs within the community. Seven individuals were taken into custody with charges to be assessed once a report is forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service.
“Kelowna RCMP remains committed to disrupting the supply of toxic illicit drugs and reducing the associated risks to public safety,” says Corporal Steven Lang, Kelowna RCMP Media Relations Officer. “These investigations demonstrate our continued focus on addressing drug-related activity both at identified problem locations and through proactive enforcement in the community.”
