Kelowna RCMP arrested a youth following a police incident at Springvalley Middle School yesterday afternoon.
On May 21, 2026, at approximately 2:30 pm, Kelowna RCMP frontline officers and School Resource Officer Unit responded to a report of suspicious circumstances at Springvalley Middle School. Upon becoming aware of the situation, school staff immediately activated pre-established lockdown procedures to help ensure the safety of students and staff.
Responding officers quickly assessed the situation, contained the threat, and safely took one youth individual into custody. The youth appeared in court earlier today where two count of assault with a weapon, assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose were approved. They are next scheduled to appear in court June 5, 2026.
Police can confirm there is no ongoing threat to the public or the school community.
The Kelowna RCMP School Resource Officers and Investigative Services units are working closely to advance the ongoing investigation. No further details are being released currently.
Members of the School District’s Critical Incident Response Team attended the school and provided support to those affected. Ongoing support remains available and can be accessed through the school’s administration team.
