The Kelowna RCMP and the City of Kelowna are busy putting the finishing touches on preparations for a busy Canada Day week. With an influx of visitors expected for Touchdown Kelowna events and Canada Day celebrations, the city is preparing for increased activity as residents and visitors gather with family and friends.
In response to the anticipated surge in visitors, the public can expect an increased front-line police presence, with additional RCMP officers assisting from detachments across the province.
“Expect to see police present throughout downtown, in parks, beaches and at key locations across the city,” says Corporal Steven Lang, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna RCMP. “Our officers will be actively working to keep the community safe through patrols on foot, by bicycle, boat, and in vehicles.”
With higher traffic volumes anticipated around event venues and during peak times, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, slow down, and make responsible choices. Anyone who has consumed alcohol or other impairing substances is reminded not to get behind the wheel and instead arrange for a safe ride home.
As the Canada Day fireworks display is expected to draw large crowds to the waterfront, motorists and attendees are reminded to be patient and celebrate responsibly. For a full list of events and important information about Canada Day festivities, please visit the Festivals Kelowna website.
