On Friday January 2nd, 2026 just after 9am, the Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to a report of multiple burnt out logging vehicles along the Caycuse mainline, which had occurred overnight, and found smoldering at approximately 7am that morning.
Officers attended two different locations on the Caycuse forest service road, approximately 45 minutes from Lake Cowichan, locating three forest industry machines that had been damaged by fires. The machines, which included two grapple yarders and one log loader, are reported to have sustained over $530,000 in damages.
At this time the incident is still being investigated, and further information may be shared as it becomes available.
