One dead, four injured in single vehicle collision in Mesachie Lake

Police are investigating a single vehicle collision on South Shore Rd in Mesachie Lake, resulting in one fatality.

On May 28, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to the 9000 block of South Shore Rd in Mesachie Lake after receiving a report of a single vehicle crash, involving five occupants in a red 2007 Honda Civic. Mesachie Lake Fire Dept and BC Emergency Health Services attended the scene. Upon their arrival, it was determined that four of the vehicle occupants were injured. First responders transported them to the hospital with serious injuries. One passenger died because of his injuries.

“The road was closed to traffic to allow for a collision analyst to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the crash” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. “Criminality is believed to have been a contributing factor leading up to the fatal collision.”
