Volunteering - Maple Ridge RCMP

The Maple Ridge RCMP recognizes that volunteers are the foundation of a great community. Volunteers are dedicated individuals, whose skills and abilities play an integral part in the success of our crime prevention programming.

Why volunteer?

  • You would like to get an inside look at policing
  • You would like to make a difference in your community

Minimum Requirements

  • A clean driving record, if you possess a license
  • 16+ years of age
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident for a minimum of 5 years
  • A time commitment of:
    • 1 year service
    • 1 volunteer shift per month
    • 1 community event per year
  • Attend all required training sessions
  • Pass a suitability interview and reference checks
  • Able to obtain a criminal record check, to a level congruent with the duties of the position

Available opportunities:

Speed Watch

Speed Watch is an educational program designed to bring awareness speeding at high-crash and high-risk locations, such as school zones. The program is conducted in partnership with ICBC, and volunteers record important data, such as vehicle speeds and incidents of distracted driving.

Citizens on Patrol

Citizens on Patrol is a volunteer program where trained volunteers observe & report by driving through crime hot spots, acting as a visual deterrent for criminality. Volunteers report negative/criminal/suspicious activities, as well as run license plates and look for stolen vehicles.

Bike Patrol

Bike Patrol is a volunteer program that utilizes teams of volunteers on bicycles, who patrol through crime hot spots, to act as a visual deterrent and second set of “eyes and ears” for the RCMP reporting suspicious, criminal and nuisance behaviour

Integrated Safety Ambassador Team (ISAT)

ISAT is a volunteer program that integrates multiple community stakeholders and focuses on community engagement. ISAT volunteers patrol the downtown Maple Ridge core in teams, reporting criminal, nuisance and suspicious behaviour

Lock Out Auto Crime

Lock Out Auto Crime is an educational program, supported by ICBC, designed to draw attention to preventing thefts from vehicles. Volunteers audit parking lots and vehicles, looking to see if visible valuables or other circumstances would make a vehicle insecure. Volunteers also scan vehicle license plates, looking for possible stolen vehicles

Community Events

The Crime Prevention Unit participates in numerous community events throughout the year, such as the Our Neck of the Woods festival, Canada Day, Winterfest, and Remembrance Day. Volunteers at community events take on a variety of roles, such as hosting an information booth or wearing the illustrious Safety Bear mascot outfit

Block Watch

The Block Watch program is a community-based crime prevention program aimed at encouraging residents to take a proactive approach to neighbourhood safety. Through education and training, the Block Watch program provides communities with a means to take responsibility for its own safety by reducing the opportunity for crime.

Business Block Watch

Business Block Watch is a program designed to reduce crime in the Downtown Maple Ridge business community. The program partners with the City of Maple Ridge and the Ridge Meadows RCMP to provide local businesses with tools and resources that can help reduce business crimes and improve safety.
