Police investigate shooting in Maple Ridge

Update: Based on the information obtained thus far, investigators believe this to be a targeted incident. There is no further risk to the public at this time. The victim, who is known to police, remains in hospital in critical condition. Officers are conducting a number of investigative steps to identify potential suspects. The area will be cordoned off for some time as the investigation continues.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Maple Ridge RCMP is investigating a shooting that occurred last night in Maple Ridge.
On August 18, 2026, at approximately 10:00pm, Maple Ridge RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the 11400 block of 236 Street in Maple Ridge.
Officers on scene located a 56-year-old male victim inside a vehicle outside a residence suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Maple Ridge RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) is currently processing the scene. The investigation is still in its very early stages. Officers are continuing to gather evidence and determine exact circumstances, including taking statements and canvassing the area for video surveillance and potential witnesses.
